Ninth-grader Riley O’Keefe claimed the circumstance has developed significantly more substantial than yearbook shots.

“The double standard in the yearbook is more so that they looked at our physique and thought just a small little bit of pores and skin displaying was sexual,” O’Keefe mentioned. “But then they looked at the boys, for the swim group photos and other sports activities photos and imagined that was fine, and which is seriously upsetting and not comfortable.”

“You are not only affecting their picture — it really is not just for shielding them — you’re creating them uncomfortable and experience like their bodies usually are not appropriate in a yearbook,” O’Keefe included.

Fellow ninth-grader Zoe Iannone remarked to WJAX that, “They opened up the yearbook, observed photos and that was the initial thing they anxious about. It was unfair and I was horrified. I was disgusted.”

“If mother and father are not instructing at home how daughters really should dress and costume decently, then the school has to parent,” mentioned Rachel D’aquin.

O’Keefe mentioned no make any difference individuals say, she’ll continue to advocate for herself and others.

“The dress code and sexualization of young girls’ bodies has been occurring for a prolonged time,” she explained. “All the messages I get about people staying thankful for me talking out are value it, and I’d do it a million occasions.”

The faculty stated they will refund the value of the yearbook to mother and father who complain about the issue.
